These slogans and many more have filled safety boards and posters ever since health and safety became something to abide by. Safety truly is something that doesn't happen overnight. At times employers look for a new way of doings things, a change in their safety culture, or to weed out the complacent and habitual "safety anarchist".
"13 dead in D.C. shooting", "Mass Murder Stuns Friends of Victims", "Gunman Kills 5 Co-Workers and himself", these types of headlines are getting to be the norm in our society these days. The question for workers and employers is how do we identify these potential perpetrators through behaviors, and how do we deal with issues before they escalate.
There's something refreshing about the New Year. It's a favorite time to reflect on where we've been and where we're headed, a time for renewing old commitments and making new ones. The start of a new year is also the perfect time to review safety programs and chart a course for improvement.
